Today was our 10th day in Greece, and we spent our day talking about the books of 1st and 2nd Maccabees in class as well as visiting the Archeological Museum. At first it started off to be just like any other museum experience I've had so far. We walked to the museum, got the whole "no camera flashes" lecture, and began to look around.

Everything there was incredible. So much marble, statues, artifacts, everything was breathtaking.

Once we had looked through all the exhibits, some of us decided to take a bathroom break before heading back to our apartments. We remembered someone mentioning earlier that the bathrooms were in the basement, so we walked to the back of the museum to find the elevator. We weren't exactly sure which buttons to press, so we just guessed and hoped for the best. We began to slowly move downward towards the basement, and after awhile finally stopped. Normally at this point the doors would open and we would walk out, but not this time. We waited for what felt like forever for them to open and let us out of the cold, dark elevator, but they never did. Then we began to panic...
We couldn't see anything so we just pressed all the buttons that we could find, some of which didn't even work. After what seemed like eternity, the doors finally opened up and we ran out, sighing a breath of relief. We made it to the bathroom and just in time to meet back up with our group before leaving.
All in all, it was a very eventful day.
"If it is well told and to the point, that is what I myself desired; if it is poorly done and mediocre, that was the best I could do. For just as it is harmful to drink wine alone, or, again, to drink water alone, while wine mixed with water is sweet and delicious and enhances one's enjoyment, so also the style of the story delights the ears of those who read the work. And here will be the end." 2 Maccabees 15: 38-39.
