Walking with the Gods

When I woke up at 5:45 this morning, I grumbled to myself, "This better be worth it." I am happy to report that I was not disapponted. We left at 7am today to take a day trip to Delphi, which may be the most beautiful place on the entire planet. Seriously. If you don't believe me then you're just going to have to check it out for yourself. Our first stop on the trip was the Osios Loukas monastery, which is situated beautifully up in the mountains. I thought the view couldn't get any better. I was wrong.

Next we went up to Delphi, and got to walk among ruins that are thousands of years old. Thousands! We saw the temple of Apollo (or at least what's left of it), and the rock of the Oracle. It's crazy to think that a few thousand years ago, people would come from all over just to hear what the Oracle had to say. They would make that trek all the way up the mountain (and boy was it a hike) for just the chance that they would get to speak with the Oracle. Today we know that the Oracle's "wisdom" actually came from noxious gasses, but back then they really believed in her power, that she spoke through the god Apollo. The people would come to her and ask questions, feeling close to the gods through her. And just as they felt close to the gods all that time ago, I definitely felt something special today. I don't know what it was: the view, the weather, the history of the place... But for whatever reason, I fell in love with Delphi.
