Today we took our first day trip to Delphi. It was beyond breathtaking and basically we walked with gods all day. We first began our trip by stopping at the Osios Loukas monastery. It was a beautiful monastery perched on mountain with an impeccable view of the surrounding mountains. Surrounded by the architecture of the monastery and looking over at the beautiful landscape i felt as though we were walking where the gods had once been, when they created these surroundings. The most beautiful part of the monastery was a statue of a bishop who had blessed the cannons during the war for Greece's independence, for me that is where i felt as though i was walking with the gods. Even in times of violence the gods where their walking with Greece to win their independence!

Our second stop was Delphi itself and we toured the ruins of the temple of Apollo, the stadium and the rock of Sybil the oracle. Being in such an old place and still being able to see the foundations of the temple and the stadium was unbelievable. Walking with the gods here was like reliving what it would have been like in Delphi when the oracles existed. In the time of the oracle people would line up for miles to get a change to speak with her, and to be honest the number of people there today could have been equal to what it used to be. Afterwards, we walked down from the temple of Apollo to the sanctuary of Athena. For a long time I sat and experienced what it felt like to be surrounded by the beauty of creation, and for a moment it felt as though i was walking with the gods and experiencing the beauty of creation.

Today by far was the best day of our trip so far, i never imagined being able to experience such a place where no matter what year it is, the beauty of what is around you never ceases to amaze.

Alex
