I Can See Turkey From My Backyard!

This morning we said goodbye to our apartments and our time at the CYA. It was weird leaving the place that we've learned to call home over the past two weeks. But never fear, we will be back in Athens for a few days before leaving for good. For now, I'm going to enjoy our time in Rhodes! Our flight left at 1:35pm, which was a great surprise since the syllabus said 9:15am. So we got a chance to sleep in a little, then off to Rhodes we went! Once again, I was very impressed by how spacious the plane was. I had tons of leg room and the seats were incredibly comfortable, which is going to make it even harder to get on the cramped Delta plane for the flight back. Bye Athens!

So far, Rhodes is beautiful. Our hotel is right on the beach, and our room has a view of the ocean. Also, we can see the coast of Turkey! Rhodes is actually much close to Turkey than it is to mainland Greece. With this in mind, I am excited to see how the influence of so many different cultures show up here! It's going to be weird to adjust to falling asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing, not the cars honking, dogs barking, city sounds I had actually gotten used to in Athens. We were treated to a four-course meal tonight, and while I'm sure the food was actually very good for most people, my picky-eater-ness finally peaked, resulting in a dinner of bread and ice cream for me. In my defense, I did try everything! But I'm looking forward to more dinners here and trying more foods. Something else that's going to take some getting used to is having to go ALL THE WAY TO THE LOBBY to get internet. I know, it's a huge pain to have to walk down a few flights of stairs to connect to the world. I'M KIDDING! Kind of... I have to admit when I first realized I'm not going to be able to lay in bed and do my internet thing I was a little thrown off. But then I came to my senses and realized how pathetic that was. I do have to say that so far, my favorite thing about being here is the normal shower! It felt so good tonight to be able to just stand and not have to hold the shower head. Tomorrow I'm looking forward to a relaxing day of some shopping and sitting on the beach!
