Body and Soul.

As humans, we are different than the rest of the creatures in the world. Yes we have similarities to most but there is that little piece of us that is different. In class today, we talked a lot about souls, eternal life with God, and how we as humans can move our souls from our mortal bodies to some place new and everlasting. I thought about this a lot and I'm not sure I really believe in souls but I do know a few things about the human race, that I've learned over my 19 years.

I know that every one of us has both light and darkness inside. Sometimes we have a very clear choice of which we want to partake in, and other times we have what seems to be a simple, laid out path of one or the other. Others still fight with a mixture of both.
I know that every one of us has emotions. We feel. We feel pain, pleasure, joy, love, anger, sadness, etc. We have emotions and we can never lose that. In class today, we read about how reason tramples emotions, essentially. If you reason hard enough, you can put any emotion, pain or pleasure, aside. I'm not fully convinced of this theory but it has really made me stop and think. We can have the gentle calm or the righteous wrath like that of a lion and everything in between.
I know that each of us has strength and courage. Whether that strength and courage is like that of the virgin Mary (emotional and spiritual) or that of a hero (physical and mental), we all have some. Some people have more courage and strength with their physical bodies, others have more in their souls or their minds. But I know that every person can be strong and courageous.
And I know that every one of us will die. It happens to everyone at different times and it is just a way of life. Some believe their souls move on and live forever. Some believe that their souls move into a new body. Some believe that should just hang around after death. We all have our own beliefs of what happens after death (when your body dies, your soul moves somewhere else), but the point is everyone dies first.
I know this really isn't the most interesting or entertaining blog but they are some simple facts of life that I seem to be learning over and over again. Personally, I find some of them really encouraging, knowing that some of these things aren't just lessons someone taught me, but they are what they are. To me, Body and Soul, they are fact.
