Body And Soul

Today we talked about the body and the soul in class. The author of 4 Maccabees believed and advocated that reason and wisdom should dominate over your emotions, which can mainly be defined by feelings of pain and pleasure. I think this can be evidence proving that, as it is two in the morning and I have decided to sacrifice sleep in order to write this blog post.

Today was my birthday. It's now Thursday, so no longer technically my birthday, but there are still 8 more hours of 1/25/12 in the states, so I feel like it still kinda counts. I had a wonderful day, including having a slightly shortened class, eating amazing gyros at a souvlaki restaurant, and getting all dressed up with the group and having a delicious dinner, with a surprise cake and card, and then going out afterwards to hang out. Overall, it was a really wonderful day.

Today is also the marker for one week left in Greece. Tomorrow we are going to Lindos, a small town on the island that is beautiful. We were supposed to go today, but we changed it because the weather forecast was better for tomorrow.

I am so in love with this country. It's difficult to imagine leaving and going back to America. I'm dreading having to go back to having class and work for 40+ hours a week, sitting down and not walking around. Dinner at the UC does not sound appetizing right now. When the New Year started, I decided to make resolutions as the year progressed, because just making resolutions because of the date seemed like it hadn't worked for the last 19 years. So now, my resolution is to go on more walks, eat healthier, and spend time at meals just eating with people and not focusing on being super quick and then going back to homework. Somehow, I just want the Greek way of life to stay with me 4000 miles away back in the states.
