Wine and Music are Sweeter with Friends

"Wine and music gladden the heart, but the loves of friends is better than either." Sirach 40:20

This verse was technically not read in class but it's part of the book of Sirach in the Apocrypha. It stood out to me that day when we were reading Sirach. It was the only verse that wasn't immediately followed by something about misbehaving wives.
To me this exemplifies the idea that experiencing Greece just wouldn't be the same without the friends I've made on this trip. Either way, Greece would be amazing and I would have gotten a lot out of it. But what really makes this trip is the fun we have with each other and seeing this beautiful country with a friend by your side.
I know there's a difference because there have been moments I've been by myself on this trip. It was my choice and I don't regret going to see things like the Temple of Poseidon; it would have made the experience that much more special to turn to a good friend and say "It's amazing, isn't it?"

Friends headed to the beach on the tram. We didn't have our fearless leader, but we had each other!
Me, at the Temple of Poseidon.
Even food is better when shared with friends :)
I know I've mentioned the group dynamic already but this is different. It's the presence of people who care about you that makes hiking up hills of ancient ruins worth it because once you're at the top, you are sharing the experience. And that's the best thing anyone could ask for in a new place, a friend.
Much love from Athens! Tonight it'll be from Rhodes!
