In just over two weeks living in Greece, I have been living the life I believe Kanye West and T-Pain WISH they could be living. Here are some memorable short stories from my time so far that have meant something to me...
"Winning" our Athletic Games event inside an ancient Greek stadium in Rhodes
Today we walked up to the Acropolis of Rhodes, where we found an ancient Greek stadium right next to a small amphitheater. He told us that we had a choice to either compete in an athletic event or in a performance in the amphitheater. I chose the race.
As I stood there in my jeans and t-shirt laughing about the race just before the start, a Greek man who worked at the Acropolis make from scratch, three laurel crowns for the top three finishers of our race. Instantly motivated to win after that, I ended up coming in 1st and taking the top laurel. Although our crowning ceremonies were cheesy, and really meant nothing, the experience of running in an ancient Greek stadium and being crowned with an authentic, fresh, laurel crown make by a real Greek man, was a pretty cool experience, and one I won't soon forget.
Going to a European soccer match in the 2004 Olympic stadium
Last Wednesday a few of us got the opportunity to attend a European soccer match. It was an unimportant game in the middle of the week, so it was cheap and the capacity stood at maybe 15-20%. Nevertheless, it was an unforgettable experience. What these people lacked in numbers, they made up for in noise, passion, and flare. No literally, they shot off MULTIPLE FLARES during the middle of the game. I was shocked to see that the security guards that outlined the field did not even blink. I ended up capturing on video the one and only goal, scored by the home team in the 88th minute that proved to be the game winner! Here it is!
This is us after the win. My favorite photo of the trip thus far.
I end this blog from the lobby of a 5 star Greek hotel, so I think it's only fitting to show evidence of how pampered I am here. From what I've experienced thus far, Greece is the good life.
