A Touch of Spice

This first week abroad has already added a touch of spice to my already exciting and adventuresome life so far.  As some of you may or may not know I studied abroad when I was in my junior year of high school in the country of Ecuador for 10 months.  My school year abroad was an amazing, terrifying, and life-changing experience.  In the past couple of days people on this trip have begun to find this fact out about me and are interested about that aspect of my life.  I enjoyed telling a good chunk of the strange and interesting things that I experience abroad to Andrew, Austin, and Jill today and I really enjoyed that.  At first it was hard and somewhat weird to talk about because despite the fact that some of the things are so different from our culture in the United States it was difficult to remember all of the crazy things that happened when I was there.  It is also tough to talk about it because a lot of the time people don't care about all the aspects of my time there and just want to hear a short version of what it was like.  Ten months in my life of only nineteen years so far is a large block of time and so it meant a lot to me to be there and it also affected a lot of aspects of my personality and who I am today.

Other than Ecuador this is my first time leaving the United States and traveling abroad without my parents and I am super excited that this time has been a lot easier than when I studied abroad in high school.  Obviously it is a very different experience, traveling with a college class, only staying for a month, and being able to speak English with my friends and only needing to know some Greek to get by, and being a bit older.  I have done a lot of things in my life that have been life-changing such as moving to Washington when I was 8, studying abroad, going to over 30 national parks, and driving across the country and back.  This is just another adventure that I will be able to add to the amazing opportunities I have had in my life.  I feel so lucky to be here in Athens right now and having an exceptionally fabulous time with new friends and new experiences.  Greece is already so impressive and this is only the first week!
