A Touch of Spice and Everything Nice

"Cinnamon is sweet and bitter at the same time, just like a woman." - A Touch of Spice
As you can see by my pictures, I'm going to talk about food. I promise that I have eaten more than just coffee and pasta, I just don't have the pictures to prove it right now. First of all, I am a huge coffee addict so the once to twice a day stops at cafes are basically a dream come true for me. At first ordering a coffee was challenging. Here a macchiato is not a macchiato. The waitress explained that it was espresso with steamed milk, so I assumed, oh! a latte! "Little" did I know that it came in a shot size glass with a whole shot of espresso and a teeny tiny bit of steamed milk foam on top. I had to add a whole sugar packet to down the pure espresso. After that we asked the waitress what she suggested for our sweet tastes. She was extremely helpful and told us to try a chocolate with an espresso shot. This was what we would considered a mocha, but it tastes 10 times better! Although, this order is not standard at all in Greece and if you order it, be warned, you will get funny looks in return. The first meal I had on the first day was the pesto (pictured to the left), and it is still my favorite dish around town. When the plate is finished there is always a pool of olive oil left at the bottom but somehow the meal is still refreshing. I love pasta and I love seafood. Seafood was the number one dish I was looking forward too since we are enclosed by so many bodies of water. I had calamari on Friday when we ventured down to the beach and it was to die for. I loved it. I cannot wait to go to Rhodes and experience the fresh fish there.I have never ever been an adventurous eater, some may call me picky but I have surprised myself many times on this trip with the dishes I've tried. I can't say that I've liked all of them but I've liked a great deal of them. During the welcome dinner, Dr. Finitsis arrange a huge dinner where we were given many different plates to try. I tried spicy pork, pork with thyme, rabbit, hummus, greek salad, and a several other things. I enjoyed the spicy pork and rabbit the best. In a little town on the way to Delphi I had lamb for the first time. It was baked with an amazing lemon sauce that was like gravy. I loved it and I am going to order lamb as often as I can now! Something that I also connect with food is the socializing we have all done surrounding it. I have learned so much about the people in my group and I love it. We have all become so close in a matter of one week, I cannot believe it. I already know these are people that I want to be friends with. We are able to sit at a table for over 3 hours and just talk about ourselves and our lives. I've opened up to these people more than some people I've been friends with for years. Its awesome, yet eyeopening at the same time. Food has been a way to connect and dive head first into the culture of Greece.
