This keeps happening to me. I already wrote about food yesterday and I want to keep you folks entertained! So what is there to talk about in terms of spice? Well spice is that extra little something you add to make a creation perfect. It's little and sometimes we forget about it, but it really completes our lives. The spice is what makes you smile, genuinely and warmly because your heart has been touched. It makes that already beautiful moment feel all the more real.
There are many big things in Greece. Big ruins, big experiences, and big hearts. This country makes you feel tiny and yet so loved all at once. It's the tiny, little things that I've also learned to appreciate on this trip. They add spice to this already delicious dish of a trip.
On our way to lunch on the second day here, Katie and I heard beautiful violin music but we could not find the source. The acoustics in Athens must be amazing because we had to turn a couple of corners before we finally found him. I was already having a great day but somehow, seeing this man and hearing his music made me even more happy. He just finished the piece he was playing when we rounded the corner and I clapped for him. Call it musician's impulse but I can't listen to a performer and not clap for them after they are done. I only felt a little when I realized no one else was clapping. I do not regret it, though. This picture was taken after I clapped for him. His face lit up, he bowed, and played something a little more upbeat than what he'd previously been playing. This was a small interaction in terms of time, but it was the cinnamon to my meatballs to that day. It was sweet because I made a stranger smile. I only wish I had money to give him at the time.
Little things, the spices of life, have been popping up everywhere. Anything from the delicious whipped cream on the best hot chocolate I've ever had to funny signs on the road to starfish have been known to take my great day to the next level. A perfect meal.
Much love from Athens!
