Well, not if you're looking for brass sandals, feathered helmets, and giant spears. I will admit that I slightly was, yet I wasn't alone, and the day was not lost by any means.
Today we went to Mistras, observed the majesty of God's beautiful creation while visiting a Byzentine style monastery and palace. Accompanying us on our journey was Prof. Finitsis' mother, who we affectionately called Mamma Finitsi.
After taking a photo, she said "Orea?" which means, nice or beautiful. I responded "Nay. Ee Say Omorfee." Translation, "Yes. You are beautiful." She then told me that I was handsome, which Prof. Finitsis had to translate for me, then she responded by saying that Prof. Finitsis is beautiful because she is. I laughed, because that's exactly the kind of thing that my own mother would say. I smiled as I realized that momma's are all alike, no matter culture or geography.
After taking in the beautiful sights around us we made our journey to Sparta. We all had visions of Leonitas and his death kick playing in our head. Yet when we emerged in Sparta, we found a quaint little civilized town with friendly people and terrific gellato.
No pit. No spears. And only a bronze Leonidas...with eyeballs...
Apparently the 300 lifestyle wasn't sustainable...oh well, I had fun.
