Khadijah the Greek

"A man needs a little madness, or else he never dares cut the rope and be free."

This is the place where I have chosen to escape from the chains of responsibilities and let my mind run free. Here I can wonder about what I'll learn about myself today, how I can connect back to the universe, and who I am as a person. I would never be able to ponder these thoughts back home.

I feel like the attitudes of the Greek people that I have come across are starting to rub off on me. They're always inviting, laughing, and being amazingly generous. Even in a small island like Symi where the economy has really hit the people hard, we found nothing but people with their hearts filled of love. Priorities are quite clear here; love on people whether you've known them for minutes or years. The restaurant that we went to for lunch, Pantelis, were so welcoming to my friends and I. They welcomed us with great food, even gave us some dishes that were on the house. My favorite part of that experience was probably how he took time out of cooking in the back and had a glass of wine with us and chatted for a bit. He told us that it was his last day for the season and told us all about his travel plans around the Mediterranean. Right when we walked in and out our bags down he called us over to have our picture taken with him and a huge dish of prawn risotto for his magazine. Just this hour-or-so long experience in this restaurant made such an impact as to what it means to be "Greek" to me.

Basically all the people that I have met so far have been nothing but kind. I absolutely love it here. The people are amazing, the food is mouthwatering, the sunsets are divine, and everything is just straight up magnificent. I may have to come back sometime.

When in Rhodes,
Khadijah
