Into the sunset

Today I took my first steps into the Mediterranean Sea and it was a magnificent feeling. While the demonstration were going on in our nearby square, our group decided to go to the beach on our free day. It took us a bus ride that lasted for an hour to get to the Temple of Poseidon where we adventured on the craggy cliff sides, ate our lunch, and enjoyed the wonderful view the Mediterranean had to offer. Caught the bus and headed towards the nearby town where the beach was.

The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I was in a world all on my own. It was a perfect blend of cold Washington water and the amazing sunset that reminded me of the Philippines. As I wandered away from my wolfpack, I got some odd looks from the locals. Only then did I remember that it was their winter season so seeing a girl walk into the cold water was a bit odd. It was also probably an odd site to see a girl taking her pants off in public (no worries, I had my swimmies underneath). Surprisingly, the gradient of the beach was not as steep as I had thought thus I was able to walk further out than expected. As I stood there nearly waist deep in water, I thought about how beautiful the world is and how very lucky I am to be taking in such a breath taking view. At that moment in time, I was spiritually present.
As much as being in a political demonstration would have been fun, it was nothing compared to the moment I had when the world fell silent and it was just me and the universe.

Another "first" that I had today was dinner at the Hard Rock, Athens. I ordered the S.O.B. Burger which I honestly thought meant "Son of a B****" Burger. I confidently said told the water "I'll have a Son of a B**** Burger" with a smile on my face and he replied back "Do you mean a South of the Border Burger?" and the little enLIGHTenment bulb lit up above my head that I completely got it all wrong. I was somewhat embarrassed but decided to own up to the humorous mistake and just roll with it. I guess from tonight on, the S.O.B. Burger will be known as the Son of a B**** Burger to that waiter because of this tourist American girl.

Stay classy Athens and thanks for stopping by,
Khadijah
