I had a nightmare last night. In the nightmare I awoke in my bed in Parkland, the last 9 days of my Greece trip completely escaping my mind. I looked outside into the Washington weather and I cried because although my body was there but heart was still in Greece and the separation was nothing short of traumatic.
Christine the Greek indeed.
In case you're wondering, yes I'm trying to embrace and emulate the Greek spirit in these pictures. Haha!
One the biggest obstacles one faces when they travel is being the outsider, the tourist, the foreigner. Although I still stand out, physically, among the Greek people (even my hair isn't big enough to convince them), I don't feel like an outsider. And, like Zorba the Greek, I'm just kind of going with the flow. Not planning happens on my part but it's usually on the go and fickle but every day is better than the last. While I am here I feel like I'm letting Greece decide what my day will be like, letting Greece define me more than I thought it would.
And like Zorba, I've felt the urge to dance as soon as the music comes on. Everything is a celebration and every meal there is a cheer to something new and exciting that we've discovered.
I'm ready and willing, Greece. Claim me as yours. I've already accepted the title.
Much love from Rhodes,
Christine
