Choose Wisdom

The Alchemist was a book written by Paul Coelho that will forever be in my heart. Earlier today we talked about wisdom and I couldn't help but think the story of young Santiago from Andalusia. His journey of following the language of the universe and how we just learned about Logos went hand in hand. To me, the story of Santiago can be used as a metaphor for someone seeking the meaning of purpose in life. After I was introduced to this book, I can honestly say that I looked at life a little bit different.

There was a moment in my life a couple years ago, around 15-16, that really changed my life. I was out with a boy that I happened to have a little crush on. It was Whaling Days in our town; a small weekend festival that we celebrated annually, and there's always a fireworks show on the very first night of the weekend. Having so much swag, I decided that we were going to watch the show outside of all the hullaballoo in our own little secluded park. On our way back we passed by two extrememly drunk men. We kept walking but something came upon me and told me that maybe we should help them. Their names were Kenny and Carlos and it was actually through them that I saw God working his magic. They drunkenly hugged us and mumbled and yelled at the same time to something that sounded like:

"Don't take eachother for granted. Don't ever forget that God is always with you and will always love you and take care of you. Don't be so scared of sharing your love to him; it's not like he'll deny your love and reject you."

Even to this day I cant forget the lesson that God has taught me through these two drunkenly stumbling men. Honestly, I probably should have followed the "stranger danger" rule, but something in the universe told me that these men were in our path for a reason.

I had a similar experience last night when I went out to the beach after I was done with homework and blogging. I went out to the beach to have a little walk and talk with God. It was about an hour later on my way back that that I happened to meet two fishermen. We talked for about an hour. They talked about how grateful they are and how much happiness they have in their lives and how much they love Greece. I found this extrememly suprising due to the fact that they live on an island where the economy is highly dependent on tourism. The hotel that these two men had worked at had been closed down since November dur to the toursist season being over. Again, I should have followed the "stranger danger" rule but it just seemed so perfect that right when I end my conversation with God, these two fishermen befriended me. I'm not exactly 100% sure of what God was trying to tell me through this encounter, but so far I've decoded the message of being optimistic. I'm happy to have met these two men at the most perfect time.

I'm glad to have made these efforts to try to understand the language and the logic of the universe. I'm thankful to hagve met the two sets of two men, thankful to have come across life-changing literature, and thankful to have God guiding me through the language and energy of the universe.
