This entire trip has revolved around choices: will I try this weird new food? will I try that new Greek phrase I learned? will I hike down this cliff with everyone to just touch the ocean? Normally, I am a pretty cautious person when it comes to new things or risk taking but I promised myself I would be open to just about anything this trip. Every new food that has placed in front of me I've tried. I have now tried so many foods I never liked, such as eggplant, tuna, brussels sprouts, and goat cheese. Surprisingly, I haven't detested any of these new foods. My mom will be so proud when I tell her (or when she reads this). In the realm of Greek phrases, I haven't been as successful. Second languages are not my specialty. I try though and sometimes they understand me but I usually just end up mixing Greek and English which is probably so much harder to understand. I've tried my best to learn a lot of Greek phrases and I've mastered all the easy ones. I know to get the proper experience of the culture though is by really immersing myself into the language. Yes, we did hike down a ton of slanted rocks to reach the ocean and it was a great experience. What I mean but that question is that whenever someone asks, "Who wants to do this with me?" I try to be the first one to join them. I don't want to miss out on any amazing experiences, meals, or stories. I want to come home with as much wisdom, stories, and experiences as possible. If that means spending a little extra money or exploring instead of napping that's okay. I can always save money and nap when I get home but this could be my only time that I can explore the old streets of Rhodes or the flea market of Athens. Beauty can be found behind every corner in this country and I want to absorb as much of it as I can. I don't want to go home feeling like I left to many experiences behind, I want to go home feeling like I'm leaving my other home behind. Basically I want to come away from this trip with all the wisdom I could possibly have and not miss out on any experiences that can only come from Greece.
