Choose Wisdom

Today in class we talked about the Wisdom of Soloman and how the idea of wisdom had changed from the texts that we had ready earlier. Before when we talked about wisdom we put it into two categories: mantic and experiential. Mantic wisdom is said to be divine, and experiential wisdom of course comes from experience. In the Wisdom of Soloman, however, wisdom is described differently. It is personified as a woman who was said to have come before God. It also tells us that we can choose wisdom, and this wisdom can show us who God is, as well as give us eternal life.

Another part of class discussion talked about a few other ideas about wisdom: since the universe is constantly in motion, there must be someone there to move it, or how nature is so beautiful, that there must have been a creator.

Overall I thought it was interesting to see how many different ways there are to look at one thing.

Today after walking back from the Old City of Rhodes, my own wisdom seemed to tell me that no matter where I am, a nutella banana crepe will always be delicious.
