Children of Light

Today in class we talked about the Qumran community that wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were part of an ultra pure sect of Judaism that had a rigorous acceptance program. They also believed that the Hebrew Bible was talking about them and they were in the end times and God was coming soon to remake the world. This is why they lived a pure life because they believed that they were just going to walk onto the new world without resurrection of the dead. Basically they believed they were the Children of Light and that they were the ones who knew what was going to happen.

I want to focus on this idea of being the Children of Light. The Qumran sect thought that they knew the truth of what was going to happen and they called themselves the Children of Light because they believed they were enlightened. I would like to share a truth that I have come to value greatly in my time here in Greece: try everything food wise and you will have some of the best dishes in your life. I know it sounds cliché but I have tried my best to hold this value paramount in my thinking whenever I order something at a restaurant or café. It has not failed me so far and I have enjoyed some of the best food in my entire life here in Greece. From Oregano potato chips to lamb in lemon sauce to Gnocchi pasta, I have loved every dish I have had since I have gotten to Greece. And I have tried some things that I never thought I would like for example rabbit. I had rabbit the second night we were in Greece and it was delicious. I ended up seeing a rabbit the next day and I felt really bad but the dish itself was really good.

So that is my enlightened truth. And I am passing it down to you all in the hopes that it will be beneficial to you in your travels where ever they may take you!
