Body, Soul and Mind

Body

While staying here in Athens I’ve been feeding my body in many ways. I’ve run with my new running buddy, Katie, a few times and been walking at least 6 plus miles a day. I wish I had more time to work out while I was here because I have track tryouts when I return home, so I’m getting a little nervous. I’ve also become good enough friends with people that I can be comfortably competitive with them, like push up competitions! So with the help of the people around me I have been kind of keeping up with my workout regimen. Also I’ve been feeding my body with delicious new foods that I have never tried before. And let me tell you, my stomach is quite content!
Soul
Here in Rhodes, it has been a lot more peaceful and a little bit more slow paced. So I’ve had more time to think. I’ve had time to sit on the balcony and write in my journal. I’m finally caught up on the current day. I can always hear the waves or the rain in the background and they help me relax and get ready for bed. Every morning I’ve opened the curtains to the beautiful beach and city awaiting me and I can’t wait to explore it. We only have about two more days here and it is not nearly enough time to fully absorb the peaceful atmosphere.
Mind
Obviously we can’t go to Greece without going to class. I have been learning so much in this religion class. It’s not just about religion though, it applies to my everyday life. In high school my teachers always called history, “His story.” So as I’m listening to the history of the Jews and the Gentiles it applies to my life. I don’t want to repeat what was done in the past, obviously in a much less exaggerated way but nevertheless, I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes. This past semester I took a Philosophy class titled The Examined Life and it really helps me understand what we are talking in class right now. In class we have been discussing how the Jews started using Greek philosophy to shape their scriptures to seem more attractive to the people around them. So as we’re talking about mind, body, and soul and their differences, I have a good understanding of what is going on. It also reminds me that while I am here in this place I need to examine my life and know that I am heading in the right direction.
