Ben Sira 30:24-25

“Jealousy and anger shorten life, and anxiety brings on premature old age. Those who are cheerful and merry at the table will benefit from their food”

Tonight I had my last dinner in this part of Athens that I have called home for about 2 weeks now. We were a party of 13 and had a great dinner, enjoyed some great conversation and ate in the non smoking section because second hand smoke sucks. Our waiter popped his head his in to the room where we were a few times but left us mostly alone because we were laughing so much. It was honestly one of the best dinners I have had in Greece because I felt so at home with everyone at the table especially since we are leaving Athens tomorrow to head to Rhodes for the next part of our trip. I feel like this dinner really personified the verse from Ben Sira because there was never really a lull in the conversation; we were all laughing, having a good time, and sharing stories from the trip or from the real world (I say the real world because I feel like I am going to wake up one day and feel like I have imagined this time). We were being extremely merry and sharing cheer by the ton. We shared many laughs and remembered all the good times from our stint in Athens.

Ben Sira is the Apocrypha version of Proverbs and Ben has some pretty good points on how to live your life. I mean this type of literature is called wisdom literature so you know he knows his stuff. But I really think he hit this verse on the head when it comes to real life because when you have a good dinner with a group of friends you know it. Everyone has had something good to eat, there may or may not be wine/beer, you share quite a few laughs, and nothing is awkward anymore, it’s just funny. I think dinner tonight did that to about a factor of 10. And I am so glad I was a part of it because this and other dinners are the times that I know I will remember when I think back on this trip.

Photo cred goes to Christine on these.

Anyways next blog post will be from the beautiful island of Rhodes!

Look forward to seeing you all there!!!
