Austin the Greek

Day two of Rhodes consisted of two very interesting ferry rides and the beautiful island of Symi. Yeah the island that Brad and Angelina visited last summer, that Symi. After a very queasy 45 minute catamaran ferry ride we spent the better part of 8 hours on the island exploring, swimming, and relaxing in the main port town of Symi.

The town itself was definitely a tourist town as most of the shops in the town were closed but we found a really nice coffee shop that we stayed at for a bit to settle our stomachs before heading out to explore.

We asked a few local people where a beach is that we could go to swim and they suggested heading down the road out of town toward the next town on the island. We found one beach almost right away after leaving the town but it was really stony and the group split up with some of us pressing on down the road and the rest staying at the beach to swim there. I went with the group that pressed on and eventually we found a stone pathway right of the road down to a private beach. And we stayed there for a while. We found at this beach the highlight of my day: some charred wood from a fire and flat stones.

We drew some awesome pictures on these rocks.

Greece to me has only been getting better. I don’t know how I am going to leave. Each place we have gone to and stayed at have all been amazing. And its winter time but it’s still around 50 degrees and sunny most of the time. I know that I am still an American and still act a little but like a tourist but I like to think that I have learned a lot over the 2+ weeks that I have been here and don’t act completely ignorant. In essence that the Greek culture has become part of my culture and has begun to influence how I live my life. Would that I could stay longer so I can experience more of this wondrous place half way around the world.
