Death can be glorious to those in peril and frightening for those who feel their reasons to live have not yet been fulfilled. When the world is cruel, death is a welcome shield while a happy existence fosters only fear of the end.
Religious individuals take solace in the eternal damnation of the dead. They delight in the forever-torture of their enemies once death has befallen them. Though their lives may be bathed in beauty, their deaths will end in only pain. I, myself, find it a bit hypocritical--preaching a warped message of love for some, the few who treat you the way you wish to be treated--and take better comfort in my non-religious notions:
We all return to the earth and are recycled into new organisms.
We will not retain this form indefinitely.
The body crumbles, the blood evaporates. Sinew and muscle will never last forever.
Life ends and those who cause harm will forever stop movements.
Their "punishment" is ceasing to exist and my reward, too, is a final reprieve in the constant pain of living.
