Wisdom you must Experience to Obtain

Hot water.

It is a hot commodity here.

I'll give you a minute to laugh at that bad pun.

Done? Fantastic.

Today is the morning of my groups Delphi presentation, and since the internet was down in our apartment building last night, I am doing last night's post this morning. I am however slightly happy for the absence of Wi-Fi, because due to it, I was afforded more time, and consequently was able to experience the moment that is what I am now calling my experiential wisdom.

Back in the States, whenever I have a presentation, I will dress up. I do this one, because I'm a business major, two, because studies have shown that if you dress up for exams you on average do better, and three, well, I clean up REALLY well.

Well today, as I was putting together my outfit of a dress shirt and chinos, I observed the deep creases that I feared from packing a months worth of clothes into a suitcase. I needed a way to get out the wrinkles out of my dress clothes, yet I did not have an iron.

Feeling ingenious, I decided to hang up my clothes in the bathroom while my roommates were
showering, so that the steam from the hot showers would naturally iron out the wrinkles. I had yet to shower, but after the last roommate had taken their shower I turned the water to the hottest setting to let steam REALLY flow for about 10 good minutes.

Upon seeing wrinkles come out of my shirt, yet not significantly from my heavier pants, I felt satisfied and hopped into the shower.

As the icy water caused adrenaline to shoot through my veins, and almost elicited a heart attack from within the shower, I hopped out freezing and naked, in shock of what had just happened.

What I learned was this.

The previous day, Poppi, our College Year in Athens rep, told us that the landlord in our guy's apartment had shut off the central heating due to the other apartment resident's inability to pay their heating bill.

It slowly came to me that after 3 roommates shower for between 3-7 minutes, and then putting the water temperature to scolding for 10 FULL minutes, the said hot water tank in an apartment wherein LIVING ROOM HEAT HAS BEEN SHUT OFF is probably spent.

Kids, if your apartment doesn't have central heat, your hot water tank probably isn't a wellspring of hot water.
