Warm Glow

My eyes are opened wide (however, maybe not wide awake), my neck is swiveling from side to side and I constantly have to remind myself that this reality. I feel as if I am a kid in a candy store.
Back home, snow is falling and classes have been cancelled. The web camera connected to Red Square at PLU shows flakes of snow falling covering the red bricks. My friends write with enthusiasm online speaking of the warm hot chocolate and snowball fights. I am a fan of this type of fun, but I would much rather have the light of Athens’s sun shining down one me. Visiting a cemetery may not sound like the brightest of day activities but the churchyard had a peaceful feeling. I walked up and down the aisle of crosses until coming to the end. I sat on a nearby curb as the class began to gather. The sun was shining down through the palm trees and crosses. I sat there in silence (which doesn’t happen much being surrounded by people) and prayed to God. The sun warmed my face and relieved my numb hands as I was perched close to the ground. After seeing the beauty in Greece; the water that looks like opal, Ruins that were built in ancient times and the cobble stone that lines almost every street- I am amazed by the power of God. His creations keep me speechless. I sat on the curb, remembering not only Athens’s beauty, but the brilliant glow in people. God shines his light on my face as I embark on this journey to explore the world he has made for me.
