Today we had our day trip to Delphi. This was probably the part of the trip I was looking forward to the most. I'm such a history nut (see my previous posts) so seeing the place where the oracles were was super exciting for me.
We went to a monastery first, St. Luke's Monastery. It was founded in 946 C.E. That's over 1050 years ago. We were able to walk around a lot of the area within the monastery, and took some amazing pictures. The view was fantastic, we were overlooking these huge mountains that were covered in trees. The buildings were really old but well-kept, so they had a rustic but cozy feel to them. I didn't see any monks there, but we did go into the church and a lot of the areas where they would be.
This made me think a lot about my own faith. I have so much respect for the men and women who lay down their lives to become monks and nuns. It's a completely giving situation, in which you take on poverty and focus your life solely on worshiping and communicating with God. I don't know if I would ever have the strength to give up everything, even if I knew it was what I'm supposed to do. Their ability to walk with God really made me think about my own faith and how committed I am to what I believe.
It also brings up the famous PLU question: what are you going to do with your one wild and precious life?
