Today was quite a day. Let me just preface this by saying the bloody sock I got yesterday was just the foreshadow of what was to come today.
Today we had class at the CYA like normal and then had a few free hours to do whatever we wanted until we met back up as a group at 4pm to go to an archaeological museum together. The other day, my throat started to show signs of sickness-ie. scratchy and dry-and it escalated today into full on coughing fits and body aches. I didn't notice this until after we made our way to the museum. What I assumed would be a 30 minute walk felt more like 3 hours and I made the poor decision to wear my TOMS shoes thinking it would be an easy stroll.
Other than the fact that these shoes are relatively flat soled, they are also very thin and don't offer a whole lot of support. So, on our way back from the museum today, my sickness started to take me over as I became more dehydrated and tired from walking. I was so ache-y that for a mile or so I had two of the girls loop their arms through mine to help keep me balanced and moving forward. I would stop to have a coughing fit as which point I would not be completely aware of my surroundings. This means....when a huge marble step comes out of nowhere, you are coughing and your body is already so sore that you are completely incapable of last-second-maneuvering, you will fall.
Not only did I fall, but my left foot stepped right into the edge of the step and rolled, hard. I screamed in pain between coughing and sat in agony over my ankle, my throat and the rest of my ache-y body. I had to get help hobbling back the remaining few miles to our flat here in Pangrati. I figured I had just strained it and after some time, I would be able to walk it off. Luckily, our apartment building has an elevator that I was able to use to get to my floor instead of hiking up the stairs with a bum foot.
When we got back upstairs, I allowed myself to fall into my bed for 5 minutes before I decided to finally look at my ankle. Now, I am no doctor, I didn't even take sports med...but I definitely hurt my ankle, and I am pretty sure I sprained it. I have broken my ankle before and it was much worse than this. PERFECT TIMING TOO! I still have a lot to experience here on this trip and we are going to Rhodes this weekend. Ugh, I am so frustrated. I don't want this to hinder the rest of my trip. I plan on icing it tonight and seeing how it is in the morning. I will stick my feet in the ocean no matter what I have to do!
"If it is well told and to the point, that is what I myself desired; if it is poorly done and mediocre, that was the best I could do. For just as it is harmful to drink wine alone, or, again, to drink water alone, while wine mixed with water is sweet and delicious and enhances one's enjoyment, so also the style of the story delights the ears of those who read the work. And here will be the end." 2 Maccabees 15: 38-39.
Goodnight all.
