Loosing My Head

Today we talked about the story of Judith from the Apocrypha in the Bible. And her story is that she stopped an invading army from taking over and destroying her town my using deceit and her wits to get close to the invading army’s commander and after he got drunk one night before the army was to attack she killed him by chopping off his head and taking it back to her city. This act completely demoralized the invaders and gave hope to those defending the city. The army then fled defeated by the actions of one woman.

The blog topic is loosing my head and being the calm level headed person that I usually am, I don’t lose my head very much if at all. However being in Greece and seeing everything that I have so far, I sometimes lose my head in awe of it all. This is the first time being outside the country, because Canada doesn’t count, so I don’t have a lot of travel experience under my belt. Seeing and experiencing a different culture is very strange for me because I have always known how to speak the language, known what is expected of me and known what I should not be doing. Being in another country has put me out of my comfort zone but Greece has been all I had hoped for and more. I am seeing some incredible sights, experiencing new foods, learning a new language, and making some pretty amazing friends. And I am in awe of it all. I literally cannot believe some of the things that I have gotten the opportunity to do and see. For example I stuck my feet in the Aegean Sea today, I walked through the ruins at Delphi, I walked through the Acropolis Museum, I stood where the Apostle Paul talked to the Greeks near the Acropolis, I’ve had several hour long dinner conversations with people who have become like family to me. I never would have had the opportunity to do and experience these things if not for this trip. And frankly I cannot think of a better group of people to do it all with.

More to come
