Hello again and thanks for following my blog! Today we had our first classroom lesson and that was a great experience in addition to the parts of Athens that we got to see today. Our lesson was focused on the hidden knowledge and I am here to impart some of my new knowledge of Greece onto you. So get excited!!
Now I know this is corny but stay with me here. My secret that I have learned from this trip so far is that I have found a very new and unexpected bond with those that are on this adventure in Greece with me. I know this sounds like a given but let me explain a bit. Earlier today the majority of our group had planned on meeting outside of our apartments for lunch and heading to a cafe nearby. Jill and I were the last ones out of our room so we had to lock up and then head down the two flights of stairs and outside to reach that meeting place and we got held up a bit as the door proved trickier than normal. By the time that we got to the meeting place everyone had vanished.
We looked around for a good couple of minutes going up and down the street but everyone was gone. Jill and I just decided to head up the street to get souvlaki which is what we got the other night for dinner. Our plan was just to get a quick bite and head back to our apartment since we didn't have any means of contacting people and just to hang out by ourselves until we reconvened as a group a bit later. Luckily Khadijah and Andrew got the apartment right about when we did and when we asked them why they were here they said but to find you guys of course! I was so pleased that they had come back to look for us especially because Jill and I had basically come to the conclusion that we wouldn't be able to find anyone for lunch.
So what I'm trying to get at here is that I am pleasantly surprised with how close I've become with everyone on the trip and how much we all care about each other already. Of course I was expecting to have a good time and to get to know people and be friends by the end of the month but I had no idea that it would be like this. I think that the warm and welcoming Greeks are bringing out the best in all of us and our bonding as a group has been amplified by the hours on the plane together and having to depend on each other right from the beginning.
