The Glory of Jerusalem

On of my favorite quotes from the Book of Judith is:

"When they came into her presence, they all with one accord praised he: "You are the glory of Jerusalem, the great pride of Israel, the great boast of our people!"

-Judith 15:9

I love this quote because it means so much for a woman in here time to be given such praise especially by men of her country. Not only was she a woman, but she was also a widow. This is the time where the identity of women were determined by her husband or father.
Within the last couple of years, I have always wondered about what I can do to bring honor to myself, my family, and my country. I've always wanted to do wonderful things for the Philippines like build a good public school where children of all economic backgrounds can learn from and create a better future for themselves. For those who don't know the background of my biological parents, my father did a lot of political activism in the Philippines before I was born and my mom took take of the wounded activists. Nationalism basically runs in my veins. I have no intention of rioting while I'm here in Athens, but someday I'd like to do my part in making my "home" a better place. Someday I'd like to being honor and glory back to the Philippines and have my family and my countrymen be proud of the things I have accomplished.

Stay classy Athens and thanks for stopping by,
Khadijah
