Experiential Wisdom
Greece is best understood through experience. One thing that I have learned in particular is that cars are more likely to stop for the gods wandering around the street than people trying to cross. I noticed this when navigating my way though Athens with at least one dog trailing behind our large group. Greece is apparently one of the better European countries with following the traffic rules, but being a tourist in a foreign country it is always best to follow the traffic signals. So like the safe tourists were are, we waited for the crossing signs, but we would sometimes be met with cars that were not willing to stop.
So lesson learned. When crossing a street in Athens not only must you follow the signs, but be cautious when crossing regardless because they will not always stop. Luckily this is not the case for the canines because they do not seem to concerned with following the signs. Fortunately the drivers make the presence known with loud horn honking (which seems so rare in the US but is very common in Greece). Dogs are safe but all else beware of the Greek drivers.
Another thing that I have learned tough the experience of Greece is bundling up is essential for surfing. If you are planning on taking a stroll around Greece certain articles of clothing are essential. The most important items are leggings for under the jeans, good walking shoes, gloves, scarf, hat, and several warms coats (with hoods preferably). With all of these items warmth may be achievable, unless you are one of the unlucky few who are in a constant frozen state.
