This trip abroad has been amazing and sometimes it's hard to remember that we have to go to class during the week and do homework and things like that. Blogging has been an easier task to complete because although we have a chosen topic we are allowed to spin it and take our blogs wherever we want them to go. That gives us enough freedom that I often find blogging very cathartic after a long time. It gives me time to process exactly what I thought about during the day, what I learned, and everything that I got to see.
I was talking to one of my good friends back at home today and when I listed off the workload that we had she said that it seemed like a lot, and it definitely does sometimes. There have been many nights where all I wanted to do was climb into bed but we had to work on a partner presentation the following day for class or had to gather pictures together for our group project. We have all gotten less sleep than we would like but in the end it has been worth it. After I listed the homework things off to my friend Susan I then got to list all of the fun things we have done and the spectacular things that we have seen. I have gotten to do so much more in these past two and half weeks then I would have thought was possible in an entire semester. Professor Finitsis really knows how to do Greece the right way and how to make this class abroad one of the most memorable experiences in a college student's life. From tasting sweets in the Lebanese dessert shop, to touring the sweeping Palace of the Grand Master, and watching the sun set over the Mediterranean each instance has been shared with the close friends I've made in Greece and who I hope I will be able to share similar amazing traveling experiences with in the future.
Today in class we learned about the Wisdom of Solomon and how every individual person has the right to pursue wisdom and to partake in the world of the righteous if they so choose. To quote Albus Dumbledore "It is our choices. . . that show who we truly are, far more than our abilities." and that to me is what life is all about. Solomon sees choices as about the pursuit of the eternal life and wisdom that God has and I see it as choosing who you want to be. One can choose to start each day with a smile and a positive attitude ready for whatever the day brings or one can choose to sulk in the longing for a good nights sleep. This trip has been all about trying new things, whether that be foods you have never tried or whether that be walking for miles in one day. I have learned a lot about myself and others on this trip through the choices that have been made and I think that most of us have chosen wisdom when it comes to new experiences.
