Body and Soul

Yesterdays class topic mainly consisted of the book of Fourth Maccabees which talks about how reason should trump your emotions, and how it’s always important to follow the law.

I do think it’s important to follow the law, but I don’t know how I feel exactly about ALWAYS listening to reason other than your emotions. I think it's important to take into account what your heart is telling you, while listening to reason.

There are definitely times when I feel that I need to be more reasonable and not act solely on my emotions, but even then I think I still need to factor in what my heart and soul are telling me, not just my body.

As we’ve been going through the four books of Maccabees it’s been interesting to see the differences between them all, especially how the same event can seem so different when told from a historical or entertaining point of view. To me this is somewhat similar to all the pictures we have been taking while in Greece. We’ve all been seeing the same places, monuments and objects, but each person seems to notice different details about them. Even though I’ve seen so many remarkable things on this trip, one of my favorite pictures that I’ve taken was simply of the ribbon on a lamp shade.
