Akira: Losing My Head

Ah, a topic I have been waiting for! Let us call this post Akira complains about stupid things and pretends they're of any significance. Humor me. I am losing my head with the sheer amount of things that have gone wrong but I will amend the below statement with this: things--with the help of my classmates and Popi who is the most adorable thing on the planet--are beginning to look a little less frightening, bleak, sad, etc. etc. etc.

ON TO THE WHINING BECAUSE IT'S A MANDATED TOPIC AND I WANT TO GET IT ALL OUT SO I CAN LET IT GO.

First off, my power cord. It was broken when someone accidentally tripped over it and now the part that connects to the computer itself makes little rattling noises like a dead light bulb. I took it to the IT guy at the college and he said he would have a solution in an hour. Came back an hour later and he says it will be 1-2 day until he has an answer on whether or not the cord exists somewhere in Athens. 1-2 days for a yes or no answer. I don't know about you, but it seems preposterous to me to wait several days to possibly get a "no" and be right back where I started. Yeah, yeah, I know, impatient American--"Losing My Head"-whining post, remember? Shh.

So, I called in the heavy artillery: my mother. But, being on borrowed computers and attempting to locate an unattended computer while respecting the time of the person I am borrowing it from made it so I wasn't able to contact her with all the proper information and mailing addresses and serial numbers until yesterday.

She tells me today it will be here Saturday, shipped via crazy-expensive express. It was apparently a nightmare for her to find it as my computer is a dinosaur and they don't make those specifically anymore and somehow my mother accidentally bought me two and it's all been a giant headache but now it's on its way and hopefully all will be well.

But I still feel like my head is about to come off. I can't do my homework at my leisure; all my notes were on my computer so I had no means of studying for today's test; I can't download my photographs and update my blog posts to the extent I wish; I cannot chat with people at home to assuage my homesickness and I can't finalize a massive group order I have sitting in China, awaiting my response as all the paperwork I need to cross-check is on my computer.

God, you don't realize how much you rely on your computer until your head is rolling across the ground with the sheer lack of solutions.

I also feel down the stairs and ache from that. Covered in bruises I had no idea happened. The general stress of the trip has my back, neck, and shoulders knotted up to hell and back. It's painful to do anything but sit completely straight with my head tilted ever-so-slightly downwards. I had a dream last night about putting whole pain-killers in pasta simply to get relief so that may say something.

I've burned my hand and bruised my knees and hurt from the bed and there's another bruise on my butt from falling down the stairs that makes it very not-fun to sit and lay on my back and the shower is like a hydra I can't seem to tame and somehow I have Parmesan cheese under my nails.

Did you know you're not supposed to flush the toilet paper? Yeah, just sorta figured that one out.

And my room is cold all the time. I sleep in my coat and my hat. It's absolutely freezing. Just miserably so. I sleep all jumbled up in my covers, curled on my side, and when I unfurl in the morning I'm just a puddle of pain.

So my head is sort of coming off with all the adaptations I am failing to achieve and the pain mucking it up and making me dizzy. I have things to do and can't do them. I have pain and I want to take my head off for a while so I can acculturate without processing. So I can do and see and be without the inhibition of pain and--oh well, I've finally made some friends. They're very kind. I'm hoping my woes stop here and the true Akira arrives with her power cord.

I hope the power cord works. Oh my god, if it's not the right one I'm just going to--

And thus concludes Akira whines over things semi-related to the blog topic 2k12.
